Designers are putting a new spin on an old favorite…the classic pearl.
Following the great success of the Rockstud collections, Valentino introduced a gold studded pearl necklace on the Fall ’13 runway and brought it back for Spring ’14 in silver. Dior reinvented the classic pearl stud with the incredibly chic and popular double posted pearl that completely modernizes it. Sophie Bille Brahe has perhaps been the biggest influence on the direction of pearls and jewelry in general. She has taken the pearl down to its striking simplicity and given it a modern edge in sculptural, pure forms. Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen both offer an 80’s punk interpretation with pearls and chains accenting shoes and clothing.
The new look of pearl jewelry is youthful, modern and a bit edgy. I like these pieces on their own as a clean statement or layered and mixed with traditional pearls for a modern look.
