With Ali McGraw as inspiration, the Gucci spring collection referenced a Seventies feeling much like the current fall offerings.Shirt-dresses, A-line skirts, buttoned up coats…all neatly wrapped with a belt at the waist…feel familiar and yet completely updated in suede, leather, rich fabrics and colors Gucci uniquely mixes.
I’m always a fan of Gucci shoes and bags and this collection did not disappoint. Ankle-wrappped sandals and stacked heel suede boots worked with both dresses and cropped pants. Wide canvas straps on both polished leather and soft suede colorful shoulder bags added a sporty touch.
An extra long woven leather belt with the end tucked in the back and a classically tied neck scarf were details I liked.
Denim is still big, often worn head-to-toe, but the silhouette is new. Cropped and cuffed, swingy faded jeans made the base of many looks. I loved it with a deep red suede wrap kimono jacket…belted.
Ending with evening looks, the focus stayed with the Seventies but with a far-east influence. Kimono wraps and mandarin collar prints detailed with lush embroidery made for eye-catching short dresses as a nice alternative to traditional long looks.
