I think I must have been a bit weary of fashion after four weeks of Spring 2015 shows because when I glanced at this beauty tutorial on BARNEYS website, I was more than intrigued. Originally, I watched the video to see tips on creating the “perfect berry lip” but instead got caught up on the products and techniques used to create a beautiful base and eyebrow.
I don’t really pay much attention to foundation, but the 3 LAB AQUA BB sounded and looked too good to be true. Touting qualities designed to hydrate, regenerate new cells (ok…) and protect with SPF 40, it piqued my interest. With color correcting coverage that goes on light and is practically transparent, I thought this might actually be the one and at least deserved a try.
Continuing on neutralizing color and imperfections, I passed on the Eve Lom concealer (for now) since I’m still using and loving the RMS BEAUTY concealer, mentioned here. But, I’ve never used an eye primer and the multi-tasking BY TERRY Hyaluronic Eye Primer promising to smooth wrinkles, diminish dark circles and stand in as a neutral eyeshadow was an easy addition to my shopping cart.
A cream blush may create a more natural look than a powder, especially with my dry skin, so I’ve been on the hunt. Why not give the cult favorite NARS The Multiple a try? The coppery bronze shade is a nice complement to the berry shades and keeps things from looking too pink.
A huge part of achieving this look is a strong, groomed brow. The BOBBI BROWN Brow Shaper is described as a “life changer” in the video. It colors and fills in the brow hairs, not the skin for a natural look. Watching makeup artist Jason Ascher brush the gel onto the brow made me think I might be going about my old pencil and a powder technique wrong.
The NARS Lipstick in Bette was beautiful, but I passed, even though that is essentially what the tutorial was about. I would rather select a lip color in person.
I’m not an easy sell with beauty products, especially online, but I liked the straightforward tutorial by Barneys Beauty Guru Jason Ascher and his explanation of why he selected these products. Most importantly, the end result sold me as it was more about playing up features…skin, brows, lips…and not about looking too made up.

I’d love to know how you end up liking the 3 Lab Aqua BB. I’ve yet to try one of the BB creams! Also, I know you mentioned some RMS products, but have you tried their lip2cheek cream? I was so wary of cream blush (thought I’d completely look like a clown!) but I caved and now it’s my new favorite.

Emily – I love the 3 Lab Aqua BB. It is very sheer yet evens out my skin tone. I don’t put it everywhere though…just around areas that have too much redness or color. It goes on a little wet but dries quickly to a soft finish. Re: RMS…I have the lip to cheek in BELOVED. I like the texture but I think the color is not right for me. It’s good on lips though. What color do you have?
