British make-up artist, cosmetics brand founder and one-time model, Jemma Kidd, lives a modern country life with her husband and twins at the Old Rectory on the Stratfield Saye estate. Located “across the park” from the formal, main house of the Duke of Wellington, the decor of the red bricked home reflects the style of the young family with an open floor plan and an emphasis on comfort. Mixing traditional and contemporary, Kidd hired interior designer Penny Morrison to help her create a home with rustic English elegance yet conducive to modern living. Raising doorways, expanding narrow halls, knocking down walls to create larger rooms, and installing “American-style plumbing” contributed to the successful remodel. An allée of pleached lime trees, a walled rose and vegetable garden, stables, a treehouse, and a chicken coop make for the quintessential English country estate.
