With all the spring editorials turning out varying interpretations, the message should be loud and clear by now that the ’70s influence is here in a major way. For those who insist on resisting this direction, which is moving head strong into the fall collections, I would suggest at least to consider the flared jean. As opposed to the more citified looks we’ve seen thus far, ELLE Sweeden pushes us to deny the importance of this trend, specifically the flare, in our casual, everyday attire. I, for one, will gladly embrace them as a starting point for many looks going forward. Particularly with a higher waist, I’m happy to dust off some of my favorite belts and give them a spin. Look how brilliant they look with every jacket imaginable in this spread…from a leather jacket, parka, cape, blazer, and trench to a simple cardigan or striped tee. Styled by Jenny Fredriksson and shot by Anja Poulsen in Los Angeles, ELLE Sweeden gets this trend spot-on with model Marta Dyks perfectly capturing the 1970’s carefree California life.

I’d wear the rust suede tunic and flares outfit now. I couldn’t be happier – to me the 70’s are always relevant, just good it’s having a moment.
