It’s been awhile since I’ve put on a pair of khakis. They took a back seat while the dominance of denim took over the last several years. But, I’m liking them again. Inspired by the styling seen on the runways, the new khakis feel more upscale than versions in the past and are masterfully mixed with textures, embroideries, lace and shine. Taking cues from the best, here are three interpretations of my favorite khaki runway looks.
(ABOVE) Cropped and cuffed pants, but tailored to perfection, Michael Kors offers the classic American sportswear staple with a highly elevated appeal. Casual statement sandals, textured knits layered over crisp white shirt-tails and a bold bag complete the look.
Valentino, known for amazing attention to detail, workmanship and silhouette, offers a full leg, swingy khaki with the surprise of perfectly placed embroidery. It’s a great look paired with flats, a pop of color in a handbag and the added feminine element of a crochet-lace top.
ISABEL MARANT ETOILE Khaki Pants
Dries Van Noten is the expert and go-to designer for bringing us the highly sought after high-low, casual luxe look. Anchoring heavily embellished pieces, metallic brocades and tapestries with cotton khaki pants and jackets for the Fall 2015 collection, this is a look I’ll always be inspired by.
