With the start of a new month, I inevitably look at the next four weeks and what I have on my schedule. I like to assess the pace and mood ahead of me based on my commitments, events and free time. January is unique since it also allows me to re-group my thoughts and look at the entire new year. I’ve always thought of the calendar as having two separate starting points, one in January for obvious reasons, and the other in September, based on a school schedule.
With January here, I’m focusing on comfort. I’ll be living in my jeans and will want to up the ante with other pieces I can wear now when it’s chilly and transition right through spring. I’ll take a final, brief look at the sales, but really my mind is set on resort and spring, even if I’m not in the mood to buy right now. I’m enjoying our cooler weather and occasional rain and the opportunity to wear cozy sweaters and coats. Spring will be here soon enough.
I’d like to veer away from black for the moment and lighten up my look or add a pop of color for freshness. The shade of red Gucci offers this season is perfection and I can’t seem to get enough of it. I love the preppy notes of this bright tote and see it as a great piece for years to come.
The Yves Solomon fur-lined parka is my idea of perfect casual luxe looking incredibly chic with jeans now and come spring, with the fur removed. It’s a classic piece that never goes out of style. Tossed over dressier outfits, it adds that unexpected element of great style.
I’m also loving the comfort and warmth factor of fur-lined boots or sneakers. These by Common Projects are a great cross-over style in an ideal neutral. They’ll keep me toasty and look good at the same time. Speaking of keeping warm, I ‘ve meaning to add a cashmere beanie in a new color. I’ve been rotating my black and grey hats to all of my son’s nighttime soccer games and beige would make a great addition.
It’s time to go through my sweaters and heavily edit those that look tired or I don’t wear for whatever reason. They take up so much space, I’d like to cut back and just have the ones I truly love. After the purge, I’ll be sure to fill in with some beautiful new ones, if needed. I’ve been impressed with the fit and quality of Rag & Bone cashmere this year.
Lastly, I feel like pulling out some of my classic jewelery that for some reason or another has gone untouched for a while. A simple ring, hoop earrings, or a bangle always look good with everything…especially jeans. The Hermès Kelly bracelet is a stunning forever piece in my book.
Happy January!
