Topshop bomber; Maje dress; Stella McCartney tank; Tome blouse; Acne Studios pant; Joseph top; Rag & Bone sneaker; Mansur Gavriel sandal; Stella McCartney bag
Sticking with a tried and true palette, I’d like to update some of the key separates that are the main stays in my wardrobe. These fresh silhouettes work with many of the pieces I already own, but adding them to the mix would bring any outfit up to speed. As an added bonus, they all work from dawn to dusk.
There’s a good reason the bomber jacket isn’t going away any time soon; it truly looks good with just about everything and is easy to wear. Once I narrowed in on a style that was wearable for me (here), I became focused on finding a good one, at a friendly price. This week, I picked up Topshop’s matte satin bomber. It meets all my requirements and will be a great jacket to toss on over everything.
The slip dress, a key piece for spring, will continue to be a major player right into fall and resort. I like the look, both bare or layered, as long as it isn’t too lingerie inspired. Maje’s plissé slip dress, is a nice option. The silhouette is more forgiving than a clingy slip dress and the fabric adds fluidity and movement.
Elongated silhouettes layered over skirts and pants look very modern to me. Designers showed dresses and tunics of all lengths layered over pants for fall, which can be tricky to pull off. A more friendly choice is Stella McCartney’s hip grazing tank. It creates the elongated layered look I’m after without excessive exaggeration.
I’ve found that a pair of loose, black pants add major mileage to my wardrobe and keep my outfits current and fresh. My favorites have some sort of hem detail, either split sides, ruffled flares, or anything that adds interest and movement. I think they look smart with both sneakers and heels. All my tops are elevated a notch when paired with this easy essential. I bought these on sale last season and have styled them numerous ways. I like Acne Studios Haddie pant with a double layered hem and asymmetrical cuffs.
The white shirt with a little something special is my current obsession. I’m loving the look oversized with slim pants or jeans. I found this one at COS with an exaggerated sleeve and love it. Still on the hunt for another.
Shapely pieces with a focus on the waist are perfect for pairing with full trousers and midi skirts. A sculptural variation on the tank, from Joseph with wide straps and tapered silhouette, is a great option to wear belted or on its own. Often with tank tops, I feel unfinished without a jacket, but this heavy crepe piece has enough structure to comfortably wear on its own. I’d want to invest in the matching trousers too.
Block heeled shoes have been my go-to style for sandals and pumps for years now. Previously, the options were few, and I felt I had to grab them when I saw them, but the last several seasons there have been tons to choose from. Right now, I’m liking the simplicity of a simple criss-cross strap, preferably in suede. Mansur Gavriel slide come in a number of colors.
Sneakers are another mainstay in my wardrobe and I like the updated perforated leather in Rag & Bones newest version of their best-selling standard issue style. Clean, with no logo, cater to my minimalist side.
Leopard accessories always add a dose of style when done quietly. Stella McCartney’s new small bag is beautiful with a leopard print on a white ground. Love it for summer. The gold strap or half ring handle is chic, too.
