Although I’m not mentally in a fall mood yet, I’m starting to gather ideas on what I’ll focus on to bring my closet up to speed. As always, nothing too trendy, just subtle adjustments and introductions of fresh silhouettes, details, and colors.
I’m definitely moving towards pants with volume. Cropped or long, I like a fuller leg in both denim and trousers. It was easy to switch from a skinny jean to a loose, boyfriend cut this summer, and I’ll continue that in the fall, but finding a flattering, full leg will be my priority. Adam Lippes has a nice option to consider.
I’m also into both metallics and Mary Janes for shoes. Jimmy Choo’s Wilbur covers both those bases. The chunky low heel adds versatility to style with both pants or dresses and still look good. I also love Prada’s double strap pump on a higher heel, especially in burgundy.
Velvet is probably the biggest trend for fall. We got a tease of it last year and now it’s showing up in everything from bags and shoes to all types of clothing. A bag will be my first choice and I’ll go from there. A reader sent me a link to this Anine Bing bag which is just beautiful.
After a few seasons of simple studs and hoops, I’m itching for something more. A drop or something long is on my mind and looks good to me. Diamonds never hurt either.
I highly edited my sweaters last season and have the classics covered so I’m only adding knits that have a new detail or interesting shape. A tied side or lace-up front detailing like this are true contenders.
