The Floral Revolution

The Floral Revolution

You may have noticed there’s been a movement brewing over the last few years for hand-picked, fresh from the garden, meandering floral arrangements.  An article in T Magazine says we’re in the midst of a floral revolution. Scrolling through the Instagram feeds of some of the top florists in the country will give you a heady dose of the beautiful and creative arrangements in favor today. From weddings and events to bouquets in vases, blooms are creatively mixed with grasses, pods, herbs, fruits and vegetables, often with tendrils reaching beyond the halo of a typical, tight arrangement.

Many of the florists responsible for this movement are young women and floral farmers connecting with nature, much like the farm-to-table movement, working exclusively with seasonal flora. Together, they’re abandoning common, mass-produced flowers and instead sourcing blooms directly from select farms catering to their needs. Many of these florists are so popular with a devoted following, they’ve branched out to offer workshops and a few have published books.

The T Magazine article goes into further depth on the trend citing early influencers, such as Constance Spry and Madderlake and shares some of the current leaders of the movement.  I’ve added a few of my favorites, Floret, Saipua, Emily Thompson, Moon Canyon, Flower Girl and 100 Layer Cake, below.

We did this at my daughter’s wedding about 5 years ago. HollyFlora, a great florist in LA did the flowers and they were amazing – looked a lot like these, with added fallen antlers, amethyst and rose quartz crystals, etc. I’ve never been a fan of the tight French basket centerpieces and these photos are just gorgeous!

A beautiful round-up. It was kind of Deborah Needleman to rememeber and remind a new generation of what we had done at Madderlake. Although we did not start a flower growing production facility, we did practically everything short of that to procure better more beautiful and interesting flowers for ourselves and our clients. Cheers.

My weekend plans involve a lot of relaxing. I’m My weekend plans involve a lot of relaxing. I’m still playing catch up from my trip so the idea of poking around the house is very appealing. I want to tidy things up for the season now that we’re already in July. Fresh table linens, raffia accents, and new candles will be brought into rotation.
.
I’m sure you’ve seen the images this week of Nancy Meyers’s @markdsikes_interiors designed home as published in Architectural Digest. I can’t wait to curl up on a lounge chair and read the full story. Every photo I’ve seen so far is simply stunning. Such talent.
.
I’ve obsessed about this Tory Burch printed tablecloth (scroll forward) since I saw it in the New York store last September. It’s time to bring it home. It’s beautiful and will pair nicely with pinks, blues and greens now or warmer tones in the fall. A raffia placemat will add texture and interest peaking out from under a charger or plate. For a complete splurge, I’d select hand painted plates from the Picardie collection created by Zoe de Givenchy for @zdgofficial So lovely.
.
Meanwhile, part of my lounging around means wearing relaxed clothes. My favorite pull on shorts from @cosstores have been getting lots of play. Same with a poplin shirt I’ll tie at the waist or layer over a tank.
.
Two other favorite pieces I’ve been wearing a lot lately are a pair of @fendi silver slides and a @sophiebuhai black knotted pearl necklace. I’ll layer it with other pearls, chains, diamonds or enjoy it simply on its own. Both pieces involve minimal effort in producing a splash of style.
.
The @frenchgirlorganics Rose Lip Polish has been a staple in my beauty cabinet for a long time. My latest discovery is to use it on my cuticles. Seriously the best thing ever. I’m stocking up! This is a must try and savior for anyone with dry cuticles.
.
Enjoy the long weekend and have a happy Fourth!
My wardrobe is fairly consistent with classic piec My wardrobe is fairly consistent with classic pieces so I’ll add fresh, seasonal accessories to bring a little flair to my looks. In collaboration with #Mytheresa I handpicked items that would boost my summer outfits while still staying true to my style. Think raffia bags, bucket hats and flat sandals – summer staples with a twist.
Details in today’s story on A Note on Style.
