Even though summer doesn’t officially end until mid-September, August has always felt like the month when things wind down. So, I want to embrace all the best of the season before shifting gears to take on fall. That means enjoying the last crop of summer fruits, wearing breezy dresses, and spending time outside as much as possible. Along with sharing details on that, I want to show you a couple new favorites I discovered this summer…a lipstick, a belt bag, and some cool towelettes. Scroll down for more…
With no big vacation plans this summer, I’ve been enjoying my local surroundings. Discovering new hikes, bike paths and even restaurants and shops feels like a mini-escape from the norm. Spending time with friends, taking workshops and day trips have kept me busy and appreciative of the little things.
I recently read this blog post from Danielle Moss of The Everygirl. It made me think of friends that have relocated at a point in life where it might be difficult to easily establish new friendships. I think it is brilliant. I’ve already forwarded the post to a few people who I know would be interested.
This has been the summer of dresses for me and I’m not planning on slowing down. I keep finding new ones I like and surprisingly, in season. This sophisticated, eyelet, wrap from Miguelina is beach, pool and street ready.
Aren’t these beautiful? A friend of mine has the most incredible garden with peaches, plums, lemons, limes, avocados, and herbs in abundance. The summer fruits are near their end for the season, and I buy them as long as they’re locally available. I like mixing them in my salads for the perfect lite dinner. Don’t these sound delicious:
Mache + Peach Salad with Jalapeño Vinaigrette
Arugala and Farro Salad with Peaches (from Pamela Salzman)
Grilled Peach Salad & Mint Pesto
There are times when a belt bag is just so practical. Farmers markets, bike riding, and flea markets are a few occasions that come to mind. Shopping at local store, Jolie, I came across a line called Lili T., who makes a very fresh take on the fanny pack. Colorful straps, in patterns or stripes, secure the leather zippered pouch around waist or hips. You can wear it knotted or tie a half-bow, or get creative with it. It got me thinking about embracing the belt bag with bold options, making more of a statement, with color, texture or pattern.
I’m continuing my quest to find clean beauty products that perform. Kjaer Weis is my newest addition. The lipsticks are hydrating and nourishing with Shea Butter, Rosehip and Jojoba Oil, plus they stay on. The sleek refillable case is on par with luxury cosmetics, which you don’t always find with many clean beauty products. I bought Adore (red) and Believe (rose-taupe), and discovered a lovely Cream Blush in Blossoming .
I’ve been loving Herban Essentials towelettes. They’re produced with pure essential oils making them a natural antibacterial and antiseptic plus beautifully fragrant and a pleasure to use. I have the refreshing Lemon Oil, and just ordered the Eucalyptus Oil which is good for sore muscles and can be used as a natural insect repellant. There’s also Orange Oil, Lavender Oil and Peppermint Oil. I like having a pack in my car to freshen up and I’ll toss a few in my travel tote to wipe down surfaces and keep clean.
Happy August!
