With the start of a new year, I’m feeling like this is a good time to reassess by skin care regime. I have way too many products I’ve bought on a whim with promises of major transformations. In reality, I don’t know what’s actually working and what’s not. I’d like to streamline my routine down the effective essentials instead of applying and layering potions randomly.
There are a few products I won’t part with, like Shu Umera Facial Oil, EltaMD sunscreen and Creme de la Mer moisturizing cream. These have been mainstays for several years. They successfully clean, protect and moisturize and equally important, I like how they feel on my skin. Then, there are a handful of additions over the last year which are great additions to the regime, like Sleep It Off mask, Get Fit serum and face oils (see my two favorites below) that have found a permanent place on the beauty shelf.
What’s still missing? I’ve yet to find a toner and really good eye cream that have earned the repeat buy status. I also keep reading about the importance of an essence, such as SK-II’s signature product, to apply after a toner and before a serum. I’d love to hear suggestions if you have favorites in any of these categories.
Lastly, I’m excited to introduce dermarolling as an at-home treatment. I’ve read positive reviews when it’s used on a consistent basis and it seems like an easy, time efficient addition. Fill me in on any other at-home treatments you use and love.
SKINCARE
The Tried and True:
I’ve been using Shu Uemura’s cleansing oil for years and it’s a mainstay in my skin care routine. My skin feels clean without the moisture stripped away like many cleansers do.
Clarity Rx Get Fit is my daily serum filled with peptides that offer to specifically combat the signs of aging skin and dryness. I’ve been using this for a little over a year on my sensitive skin and like how easily it absorbs under sunscreen or moisturizer.
I wish I didn’t love Creme de la Mer moisturizing cream as much as I do, because it’s pricey, but it’s the perfect deep moisturizer for my skin. I use it in the evening…warm between hands first and press on.
I’m hooked on both of these face oils. I rotate between Clarins Huille Lotus (smells heavenly)and Goop Facial Oil for extra hydration and toning. Often times, when I’m running out the door in the morning to work out, I’ll just cleanse and apply a few drops of one of these oils. I also like to pat a few drops on top of makeup for a quick refresh and to give the skin a subtle glow.
I’ve posted about EltaMD sunscreen several times and keep it on auto-ship. I’ve tried other brands that get better ratings on EWG but I’ve yet to find one that works this well and feels nothing like a sunscreen on. Suggestions welcome if you know of one for daily use.
What I’m Trying:
A friend just gave me this 100% Pure Vitamin C Serum which will be a product I’ll add to combat pigmentation. Vitamin C continually gets high marks as an effective antioxidant while boosting collagen and reducing brown spots.
I’ve read a lot about the effectiveness of increased collagen production and better skin texture using a dermaroller. I just got one and have slowly added it to my routine. I’m not 100% sure I’m using it properly, as in, how hard should I roll across my skin. Any insight on use or effectiveness?
What I’m Looking For:
There are three products I still need and am open to any recommendations – an eye cream, a toner, and an exfoliator to use on occasion.
Zivile
My search for an exfoliator ended when I found Sisley’s Gentle Facial Buffing Cream. I swear by this product!
For an eye cream – Natura Bisse Diamond Life Infusion Retinol Eye Cream. Do give it a try.
Love A Note on Style!
Karima
Thank you for the suggestion. I love both Sisley and Natura Bisse but have never tried either of those products.
KSL
I use GloPro derma-roller and exfoliator. I think it’s made a real difference in the texture of my skin.
