Pierre Piccioli’s Spring 18 couture collection for Valentino has me inspired with seriously glorious color combinations that creatively strike a balance between old-school glamour and the casual, everyday ease of chinos. Chartreuse, fuscia, red, and peacock-blue taffeta take on a modern tone when paired with humble khaki. The mix of the familiar – trousers, tank tops, skirts and trench coats – with the extravagance of sweeping faille capes, coats, skirts and sashes was flat out stunning.
I can imagine these striking combinations playing out beautifully in the world of interiors with pops of saturated colors appearing in accent chairs, pillows, rugs, glassware and other decorative pieces. At the very least, introducing these strong colors into the home with florals is the simplest, non-committal way to test its impact.
For everyday fashion, I’d love to see a neutral wardrobe elevated with a bright handbag, shoe or single separate in one of these statement colors.
