Updated classics, pops of color, travel friendly pieces and a new book…these are the things I’ve rounded up this week.
Let’s start with a couple of classics updated with subtle tweaks that instantly add a fresh feel and contemporary vibe. Take Nili Lotan’s shirting for example. A voluminous sleeve paired with a stand-up, relaxed collar gives this essential a quietly modern edge. I love this silhouette and already bought one in white, but black, red, and a blue stripe are seriously tempting me. Or Veronica Beard’s perspective on the familiar varsity sweater. The metallic stripe and flattering deep v-neck are chic additions to the preppy basic. Short sleeves and a cropped, boxy silhouette are perfect for pairing with the season’s high waist skirts, trousers and jeans. It’s also available in black here.
Color…I’m in to a singular pop of something bold right now. Red is easy to work into most wardrobes, but yellow and emerald green are right at the top of my favorites. If a bright, singular color feels too strong, a print often tempers the impact and is easier to wear. At the very least, a swipe of red lipstick stands as the quickest and easiest way to transform a look. Bright, matte and slightly smudged feels the most modern to me.
At the end of last summer, I parted with most of my stash of resort cover ups and breezy dresses. I’ll need to replenish now and am looking at pieces that are easy to pack and preferably go from day to night. I saved this photo of Aerin Lauder wearing Borgo de Nor as inspiration. The prints in the current Borgo de Nor collection are gorgeous and the silhouettes are flattering. When I want to revert to white, I’ll consider this versatile knit tunic from Zara or voile dress from Mes Demoiselles.
Lastly, new this week is the release of Nathan Turner’s I Love California book. Covering the most iconic spots in the state, Turner shares decor, recipes, and entertaining style that best captures the spirit of California’s relaxed lifestyle. Available for pre-order and released April 10.
