Often times, I’m sold on a book simply based on its cover. Simply Elegant by Remy Meijers is one of those books. But it’s not just a pretty cover, the contents inside are equally striking with selected projects by the Netherlands based Interior Designer. In Meijers work, design is pared back to its simplest form with attention reserved for shape, color and minute detail. To Meijers, architecture is an extension of the interior with consideration of sight lines, a property’s history, the outside environment, and natural lighting.
It wasn’t until recently that I realized I’d seen his work before, in person. Meijers design aesthetic is evident throughout one of my favorite hotels, The Dylan Amsterdam. Located on one of the most scenic canals, the property is steeped in history dating back to the 1600’s. Meijers designed sixteen suites introducing contemporary sophistication and modern conveniences that complement the original character of the building. The result is warm, elegant, and welcoming.
I’m always on the lookout for new decor books and stumbled upon Simply Elegant while browsing at Juxtaposition Home, a favorite local home decor and lifestyle boutique which stocks the best selection in the area.
