I’m in Copenhagen and wanted to repeat this post from 2013. I’m finally going to see it in person five years later.*
I was awestruck when I came across this photo of Grundtvig’s Church in Copenhagen. Using close to five million simple, pale bricks to create the majestic building is incredibly impressive, especially given the start of construction in the 1920s. The simplicity of design with unadorned finishes and a pale palette combined with pared back Danish style chairs serving as pews is a statement on using restraint. The unique style of the Cathedral sized structure is an interesting balance of using details from both Medieval rural and Gothic urban churches. If I ever visit Copenhagen, this will be a must see!
