There’s no shortage of great restaurants in Los Angeles, but I wanted to share a new favorite I’ve enjoyed recently and highly recommend.
When choosing a restaurant, the atmosphere is equally important as the food and service. Ysabel doesn’t disappoint in any of those categories. Entering from the side of an unremarkable building, you’re swept into a cozy, beautiful courtyard surrounded by two facing bars. There’s seating inside the restaurant that frames the outdoor space, but dining under open sky on a patio enveloped with olive trees is my kind of heaven. And that’s just the setting…the food and drink do not disappoint. The Leo & Sons cocktail of gin and wild arugula went down way too easy…refreshing to say the least. Equally satisfying is the Ysabel Margarita made from 123 Organic reposado tequila, lime and agave. Although there are plenty of meat and fish options on the menu, there was no question I’d be ordering the pasta. Between the description on the menu and the plated dishes being served, I had a hard time narrowing down my choice. I’ve tasted the Summer Truffle Tagliatelle with garden herbs and parmesan cheese and an Artichoke Tortellini with green olive, tomato, spinach and lemon. Both were exceptional. A Hamachi Sashimi with chili, ponzu and cilantro, the Avocado Salad with cucumber, dukka and lime yogurt, and Brussel Sprouts with raisins, mint and kimchee sauce were other standouts that will keep me coming back for more.
