Thank you to everyone who shared the treatments and regimes that seemed to help with personal hair loss. By continuing the conversation, I think we all benefit from each other’s story. Clearly, there is not one answer to the problem. That being said, after reviewing the comments in the blog post and instagram on hair loss, there were a handful of products that received more than a fair share of mentions. I wanted to collect that information and share again here.
Personally, I’ve started with the Nutrafol supplements. More than a vitamin loaded with biotin and zinc, two key nutrients often associated with hair thinning, Nutrafol’s ingredients include stress adaptogens, DHT inhibitors, marine collagen and antioxidants. Clinical trial results can be found here and several readers had positive results.
For visually enhancing volume, the products in Living Proof’s Full collection received consistent high marks. In particular, the Full Thickening Cream was a hands down favorite. I’m testing the shampoo, conditioner, cream and volume blast.
Several elixirs, serums and topical treatments add another dimension to a protocol, and based on comments regarding side effects, are a personal preference. Rogaine (minoxidil), often prescribed by a dermatologist as part of a regimen, may provide good results for some. Renee Furterer RF80, Leonor Greyl and Kiehl’s Rosemary Oil are additional topical, drug free treatment options.
I’m a fan of laser therapy for my skin, so when a reader mentioned using a laser hair comb, my interest peaked. Further investigation found not only a comb, but a head band and even a cap with various strengths of diodes. Not an inexpensive option, so I’d love to know if any of you have had success with lasers.
A few readers talked about switching or no longer coloring their hair and claimed it made a big difference in the texture and amount of fall out. Specifically, one reader said using Hair Print, a food-grade, natural treatment for hair coloring made of botanical extracts, produced a significant change.
Lastly, and the most expensive option that a handful have had success with is PRP (platelet-rich-plasma). I’m scheduling a consultation to see if it’s right for me. I’d be happy to share my results if I venture down that path.
I’m in for the long haul on testing many of these products. Most don’t provide noticeable results right away and recommend a commitment of use for at least 120 days.
Below is the full list of suggestions collected from reader’s comments. Chime in if something’s worked for you.

Good luck with your strategy and products you’ve chosen and I many of us will be eager to hear of your results. I know you wrote that you’ve made a commitment of at least 120 days, but I recommend patience and probably more time. Here’s my story.
Last year, after experiencing a gradual bout of age-related hair loss (I’m in my 60s), made abruptly worse by a bad reaction to my first-ever use of Prilosec, I was really suffering. My hair had become very thin and fine all over my head, plus I had a noticeable bald spot in one area. But after sitting in her chair, weeping after the Prilosec incident (I stopped taking the drug immediately, with my doctor’s blessing) my stylist recommended that I try biotin. I went on a daily dose (nothing fancy: I take 2 Nature’s Made gummies a day, or 3000 mcg) and after about 8 months, I had real results — I’ve discovered a growth of new hairs — each currently about 3-inches long, all over my head and along my hairline. It’s amazing and I’m thrilled.
I had changed nothing else. I continued to color my hair and made no changes to my shampoo, conditioner, or styling. As long as the biotin produces such results, I will stay on it. An added bonus: my nails are gorgeous….
Thank you, Karima, for making this a discussion topic on your wonderful website. Best wishes to you.

Thank you Kate for sharing. I’m so glad the Biotin worked for you.

I highly recommend Mill Creek Botanicals Biotin Shampoo. You can find it online, and the price cannot be beat. It is certified organic and is color safe. After a year of consistent use, this shampoo gave me an incredible boost in growth, strength, volume, and shine. It also has helped my nails stay strong, even through the polar vortex of this year’s midwestern winter. I have never received so many comments on my hair! It did take a full year to really see results, but the difference has been amazing. I was skeptical, but I am so glad I tried this product and stuck with it. Highly recommend.

I will add that to this master list. Thank you!

I’ve used Nutrafol for two years and it absolutely worked for me. I also stopped coloring – so hard to know which one was the magic bullet. My hair is twice as thick, and so much healthier.

Thanks to all.

Regarding the coloring, I would love to find a salon near me that uses Hair Print. It’s all natural to the point of being edible and has produced a significant change for one of my long time followers.

I’ve used Viviscal for a few years with good results.
