Any long time readers may remember my ordeal with thinning, weak hair. I think the PRP treatments last year prevented additional hair loss, but there was still the problem with breakage. My hairdresser recommended I try Kérastase’s Genesis line for “weakened hair prone to falling due to breakage”. I’m obsessed. I immediately noticed a difference in manageability, smoothness and shine after the first use. And the scent is heavenly. This is not a sponsored post, just sharing a product that gets really high marks in my book.
MY QUEST FOR SMOOTH, SHINY HAIR

OMG, I literally saw your newsletter come in and once I saw the headline, I thought, I have to let Karima know about Kerastase Genesis! But of course, you were already on it! My hairdresser turned me onto this as well because I have desperately needed a haircut during quarantine and no matter what I use, my hair has felt dry, but Genesis made all the difference. You should also ask your hairdresser for the Fusio treatment. You spray them on in place of conditioner once a week and that made a major difference as well!
Karima
Isn’t it amazing? And don’t you love the smell? I’ll ask my hairdresser about the Fusio treatment too. Thanks!

Thanks so much for sharing!!! This seems to be exactly what I (and probably many others)need right now.

I am going to give the shampoo a try. I’ve experienced thinning hair and hair fall I believe mostly due to hormones, stress, etc. but I added an iron supplement to my routine and heard about the Keratase line so I’m glad to hear you like it so much. You are a trusted source Karima! Thanks for sharing this info with your readers.
Karima
It has made such a big difference!

I am also looking for a great hairbrush! Mine are so old… any recommendations?
Kia
Do you use all 4 products?
Karima
Yes. I use the shampoo, conditioner and spray daily. I use the serum a few times a week.
Karima
Colleen, I like both the classic Mason Pearson and Raincry boar bristle brushes.

Hi Karima, I’m a blonde that has my base raised as well as highlights painted on along with using hair dryer and flat iron to control frizz! I used Shu Uemura Ultimate remedy after shampooing to protect and smooth for styling and loved it. They discontinued last year and the replacement is a different formula that leaves hair “plastic” looking. Do any of your readers have a product they recommend? My problem isn’t fall out from brushing so I don’t think this product is the answer for me. Thanks
Karima
I would suggest looking at the Kerastase line of products. Their website helps you diagnose what products would be helpful. Even though you don’t have “hair fall”, I think you’d like the results from the Genesis line for your concerns.

Hi Karima, love your blog! Have you had your iron ferritin checked recently? I have found that for me my ferritin levels are the key. I am in my early 50’s and for the last ten years have struggled with keeping them up. They tended to hover around 30 but anytime I can get them up over 50 my hair starts to improve. I have read that at least 70 is ideal for maintaining hair thickness. I run and do a lot of high intensity workouts and I believe that along with heavy periods as I approached menopause contributed. At my hair’s worst I was busy running around after my children and often would skip lunch. I was eating very little meat and breads in order to watch my figure but being so busy was not paying attention to making sure I was adequately fueling my body with the proper nutrients which included iron. I have also read that both coffee and especially tea interfere with the body’s ability to absorb iron in foods and now make it a point to enjoy those drinks in between meals, instead of say with my breakfast. Vitamin C helps with iron absorption, calcium/dairy decrease it. My daughter and I were looking at pictures taken of me on my birthday five years ago vs. the picture taken this year and the improvement in the thickness and health of my hair is extremely noticeable. It is so much thicker and healthier now that my ferritin has improved. I have also stopped taking all the random supplements for hair health and now only take vitamin d and a probiotic nightly. So just sharing what worked for me in the hopes it may be helpful to you or someone else. Best of luck as I know from experience how disheartening thinning hair can be.

Hi Danielle,
Thank you for your comment. All great points! I had my ferritin and zinc levels checked in January and they were both slightly low. I stopped taking hair supplements and switched to a prenatal vitamin that has a good ratio of zinc/iron/biotin. I’ve also taken a high dose of Vit D for a very long time once I found I was very deficient in it years ago. I agree that streamlining the supplements helps. This is a good reminder for me to follow up on checking those levels again. Thanks!
