I’m often attracted to the same styles over and over again. I put a navy pinstriped blazer in my cart, then remembered I already had a great one hanging in my closet. Which brought me to a mini closet edit where I tried on every jacket to confirm if the style was still viable. I was hoping this mental checklist would prevent me from unintentionally purchasing duplicates.
My navy pinstriped blazer fit perfectly, just as my several black blazers and jackets did. Ditto for pea coats – one in cream, black and navy. I’m covered in these categories. Yet, I can’t help looking at the new.
If a piece is in good condition, well made, has a great fit, and feels good on – it’s a keeper for the long haul. I’ve curated a closet of classics which takes some of the fun out of shopping but makes creative styling the older pieces interesting.
