It’s mid-November but it doesn’t feel like it in southern California. It’s warm. Beach weather, really. I’m not ready to give up on fall yet though. I just returned from a week in Switzerland where I got a taste of true autumn weather with chilly temps and colorful fall foliage. I landed in LA to 86 degrees which is making it hard to get excited about fall/winter clothing. Fortunately, the resort collections are starting to hit the stores, so I have lots of fresh things to see.
Browsing my instagram this morning, a beautiful photo by Chris Burkard* immediately inspired me. The colors are quintessentially beachy California. I thought about how I could translate this mood to an outfit I’d like to wear and found some great pieces. I’m excited about white shirts going forward that have some sort of frill or pleat detail around the neck or sleeves. They’re not as architectural as the shirts from the last few seasons and have a soft, romantic tone to them. Isabel Marant Etoile’s high neck, scalloped placket top is a perfect example. I’d wear it with faded denim and sand toned accessories…sneakers now, sandals come summer. I have the Vince slip-on skate sneakers in a couple of colors and recently added a high-top pair to the mix. I like the cross between bootie and sneaker and they’re perfect for running around. And how cozy is this shearling tote? Love it in place of some of my more polished totes for a super relaxed vibe.
