When I viewed this streamlined estate on a six acre oceanside bluff in Malibu in the June issue of Architectural Digest, it was immediately added to my list of all-time favorite homes. Using predominatly glass, steel, and concrete to create an open, light-filled home with gorgeous ocean views, designer Scott Mitchell created one of the most beautiful, warm, contemporary homes I’ve seen in awhile. The low-lying house blends seamlessly with the landscape and is barely visible from the street, thanks to sodden green roofs. Worn, pale woods, nubby linens and natural tones prevent the 15,000 square foot home from coming off as too grand. Although expansive, it’s ultimately an amazing family home with a children’s wing, game room, home theatre and 168-foot long infinity pool looking over the Pacific.
