The watercolor illustrations by artist Mats Gustafson have been a long time favorite. His work is very distinctive and has appeared in many international fashion magazines over the years. Last summer, a limited edition book was published, which I promptly purchased, to coincide with an exhibition of thirty years of his work at the Millesgarden Museum in Stockholm. I have loved pouring through the pages of illustrations from 1989 – 2001 of fashion, nature and portraits and consider this book a treasure.
Many fashion houses have commissioned Gustafson to create advertising art to represent their designs, including Hermes, Tiffany & Co., Comme des Garcons and Yohji Yamato. Dior’s Fall13 and Resort13 collections by Raf Simons are the more recent works by Gustafson. They capture the clean, modern silhouettes of Simons designs yet still feel elegant, nostalgic and true to Gustafson’s signature style.
