When at least half a dozen of the major and most influential fashion houses all present variations on a similar trend, you know it’s going to stick and most likely trickle down for a couple of seasons. That’s the case with one of the biggest looks for Spring 2016, the lingerie inspired slip, presumably worn for daytime. Personally, I think it’s too literate a translation, but I like elements such as the lace edge details, the fluid fabrics and the unabashedly feminine spirit. I saw this shot above in Vogue China and it got me thinking about ways to work this look while still having coverage. Mixing menswear tweeds and heavy boots is the perfect contradiction. This helps it migrate from the bedroom to the streets. Still, a minimalist slip dress, without lace, is more appealing to me and I’m inspired by the way Preston Davis of Keep It Chic is styling hers to wear now, with either a turtleneck layered underneath or a long cardigan topper and loafers or boots with tights.
