My post yesterday, Denim After Dark, got me thinking about holiday gatherings and what I’d like to wear this year. November is the perfect time to take a look in my closet and assess what might be needed to throw a few outfits together for upcoming events in the next couple months. I’m sticking with a black palette because it always looks elegant when done right, plus, I can inject color later if I choose.
Starting with the base of almost all looks is pants. I have a few options with Stella McCartney’s ruffled trouser from last year and a slouchy Helmet Lang crepe along with several classics. I’d like to throw into the mix a pair of velvet pants. Any silhouette will do, but Frame’s cropped flare feels modern and looks good with a pretty shoe. It can also be dressed up or down quite easily.
All black can look ordinary or spectacular. This is where accessories have the opportunity to tilt the scale one way or another. Luxe, forever pieces like Bottega Veneta’s Intrecciatto Knot Clutch and Chanel slingbacks are smart choices. They immediately elevate any outfit. I passed last year on Chanel’s mid-heel slingback in tan, but fell in love with the AW16 gray flannel/velvet combination. Even better for me, they’re flat! The Bottega knot clutch has been on my radar for years but I’ve hesitated because of the petite size. The longer version is much more accommodating to my must have purse essentials…specifically the large iPhone 6s Plus.
As far as jewelery, here’s an opportunity to stay classic with fine pieces or wear something with more of a statement, but still me. I like Marc Jacobs oversized hoops because they’re not overly glitzy and the little loop in loop is interesting. I also have been eyeing the single beaded ball from Les Bonbons.
The best part about these choices, is they will be worn a million different ways with the silk or lace blouses, textured jackets, and cozy knits I already own.
Have you decided what you’ll be wearing this holiday season? Any pieces you would like to see styled? Let me know in the comments!
