I love fall fashion but sigh when faced with the reality of wearing the majority of items in California’s warm climate. But the mood for Fall 2022 is heavily driven by shoes, belts, and bags. That’s something I can get behind wholeheartedly and actually incorporate into my wardrobe.
Loafers, ballet flats, and Mary Janes – the shoes of the season – are all fair game and will slip seamlessly into my uniform of jeans, trousers and dresses. With a few tweaks, they’re able to bring a sense of newness to the table. The squared toe on Gucci’s horse bit loafer with stitched detailing is a perfect example. And Toteme’s Sharp flat (above) incorporates the Mary Jane, a ballerina and a slingback into one chic shoe!
Same with bags. This season, a short strap handbag worn close to the body projects the most modern look. I love the Brick Casette from Bottega and Khaite’s Remi Bag (top image in brown). Both available in a number of colors. Oversized is on trend too, but for now, I’ll pass.
Belts are the easiest game changer to so many looks. Corset styles to studded arrangements around the waist make a big impact. I’m on board with the later and love my newly purchased Khaite studded belt (I went with gold hardware). It’s the quickest way to take jeans and a shirt from boring to chic. If that’s too bold, a belt with tipped hardware is a good option.

Love all your choices and the blog. It would be wonderful to occasionally see a shoe option that isn’t over $500. Most of these are nearing $1,000. Even for me $200 is a splurge. Just wondering if you would consider it occasionally. I am also trying to buy better pieces, but hoping not all have to be this pricey.

Thank you for your comment Kim. The content on A Note on Style reflects the styles, designers and quality that appeal to me the most. I love sharing products I would consider buying myself and looks I find inspirational. My heart is in luxury fashion which is why I mostly refer to sites that reflect this aesthetic. I’m not trying to exclude products at lower price points, but they are often not the first to catch my eye. However, if in my search for product I see an item that’s wallet friendly and fits the criteria for a quality I’d consider, I’ll include it. (See these recently linked MARY JANES and these LOAFERS…) I also frequently link to COS which is competitively priced for a look I can get behind.
When a price point is out of reach, I hope the edit, stories and moodboards serve as inspiration.
