I took a three week break from fashion while traveling in March. I deleted all the emails from sites I subscribe to without giving them a thought. I was in uniform mode and fashion took a back seat. If you follow me on Instagram, you saw the look…jeans, sweaters, sneakers and boots spruced up with patterned scarves and a rotation of coats. And that beanie I wore on repeat. I wish I would have packed additional colors! Committing to a uniform, getting dressed was a breeze.
Even though I wasn’t focused on my own outfits, I still thoroughly enjoyed eyeing what others were wearing. Spotting stylish women on the streets and fabulous window displays provided plenty of inspiration for ideas to jot to memory.
For starters, favorite looks were simple monochrome outfits popped with an interesting color. A blue bag, orange scarf, or a green coat added sophistication to all black. But, burgundy looked the most fresh to me, especially in bags or shoes. Loose white or ivory jeans with black boots and a slouchy knit looked good too. Jeans in general were relaxed – either cropped with an exposed sock or breaking on the shoe. A classic look I’ll never tire of was a navy blazer with dark jeans, a crossbody bag, and loafers – again with socks sometimes tonal and other times bright. For evenings out where denim seemed too casual, the palette stayed the same with an introduction of sheen from a silk blouse or metallic knit worn with tailored, high waist trousers or midi skirts, a bold earring and swipe of red lipstick.
For those asking what to pack for upcoming trips to Paris and beyond, the looks described above could be copied at any price point and worn throughout spring and into fall.
