I think most of us have denim centered wardrobes and it’s easy to get stuck in a rut wearing them the same way over and over. We get comfortable with a formula that works and it becomes an automatic process to get dressed. There’s nothing wrong with that, in fact I find it ideal, but I think tweaking the formula provides the opportunity to look modern and less predictable in a subtle way.
My standard go-to outfit of jeans with a sweater or blazer would get a boost if those pieces added a twist to the classic. For example, trading in a basic black turtleneck for something metallic immediately feels a lot more of the moment. Same goes for shoes. I fell in love with a pair of gold Celine t-straps earlier in the season, but the fit didn’t work for me. When I saw these on Zara, I thought I’d give them a try knowing they’d provide the same look I was after. They’re keepers. I’ve already worn them several times with my jeans and love the way they add an expected element to an outfit.
A tailored blazer always strikes a chord with me, and I have my fair share of basic black, but a quiet dose of embellishment would be super chic. I know if I saw someone wearing this blazer, I’d take a second look. There’s just enough detailing with the lightly studded pockets to make it unique and in my opinion, fantastic.
Another black bag is not high on my need/want list, but I have to say, I love how The Row consistently updates a basic bag to make it look modern, timeless and covetable.
