I posted the below message on Instagram the other day and realized I should share it here as well. Not all blog subscribers are Instagram followers and vice versa. After receiving a negative comment on the blog about content during this crisis, I want all of my readers to know my mindset in continuing to move forward with posts during this difficult time.
I’m very mindful of our current reality as we navigate this new, temporary way of life. I’ve reduced my news intake to minimize anxiety and am selective about what I read and view. Beautiful posts on fashion, decor, and travel provide me with an escape, however brief.
Many of you visit A Note on Style for inspiration in these areas and I’d like to continue to provide content for you, if only as a distraction. Rather than just jump in with posts of this nature, please know I’m sensitive to the present situation and do not take lightly the weight of the crisis.
But sharing posts on fashion (we will get dressed again!), interiors (finding comfort and beauty in homes) and travel (my wanderlust will return) might provide a brief escape and allow us to look forward to something when this passes.
.
I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts on this. 🌿🌿🌿 Please share in the comments below.
I’m aware this may not strike the right chord with all, however, comments on Instagram unanimously voiced support and the need to provide posts for inspiration, escapism and ultimately for a brief distraction from the heaviness of the news.
Carol
I think you have done a good job offering images of beauty, comfort, and serenity. You have offered a clear, respectful, editorial viewpoint, and have not trivialized the stress of the world right now. I enjoy looking at your blog for inspiration and respite from stress. Thank you!

I understand what you’re saying about being a distraction but can also understand that some might find jarring the juxtaposition of photos of your lovely home or expensive clothing against scenes of what our medical teams are experiencing, & it’s only getting worse by the day.
I spoke recently with a friend whose brother goes into a type of isolation through his work in the far North where he is alone for long periods of time. He finds it very helpful to have photos around him of friends & loved ones, great experiences, or things & places he is looking forward to enjoying. it helps him to connect to people & to the future possibilities. Isolation is just one aspect of what we’re experiencing but many do struggle.
Perhaps a slight shift to recalling what has been joyful, amazing things being done creatively to help, & what we can look forward to could help bridge the gap in perception
It’s also helpful to highlight ways that those of us with the means can help others-there is so much need.

First, I enjoy the beautiful photos and the outfit inspirations. But I do agree, the cost of the clothing is way beyond my teacher’s salary during good times, but way beyond reach now. I can only imagine how people who are without an income feel. Maybe some budget outfit inspirations or recreate it for less posts?

Thank you for being sensitive to your readers at this time.
I enjoy your blog completely and we all need inspiration
and a respite from the heaviness of the new reality during
these bleak times.
If someone objects they can choose to tune out….their
choice.
I love the inspiration, as I always do ,but especially while
I am cooped up.
This too shall pass this too shall pass this too shall pass
Thank you for being a ray of sunshine and hope .

Thank you for your perspective. I look forward to receiving your emails.
I want to suggest that you do a blog on suggestions for a spring or summer travel wardrobe. This would give all of us something to look forward to.

Haters gonna hate! Keep doing You!! I love your posts. They add a little levity to my day. We can’t just curl up and die. We are all painfully aware of what’s happening in the world. Do you-
Natalie Allen
I think you are handling this beautifully and look forward to more inspirational posts. And thank you for thinking of those of us that are not on instagram.
Susan
Karima, please continue your blogposts as you have been. I am happy for the diversion from the news that I also read.

Everything about your taste, your style, your voice, and how you craft your posts to express such a refined point of view so clearly shows you are an intuitive, smart, and thoughtful person. Case in point is you actually received some feedback and decided to address it in a sensitive way. If you chose to write about the current medical and political climate we’re all faced with I have no doubt you would approach it with the same elegance. Your blog is something I look forward to every day. I don’t need to buy everything or afford everything in order to appreciate it. Thank you for doing what you do.

Dearest Karima.
Your blog posts have been a beautiful bright spot in a day other wise full of angst and uncertainty. No-one on planet earth could have ever predicted that such a tragic event would unfold so quickly and spread so rapidly. Our hearts go out to all who have been sickened and who have lost their lives in this horrible tragedy. As I read my feed on social media daily I witness for the most part, humanity at its best, looking out for neighbors, offering up whatever they have to help out others that may not have enough , acts of kindness all over the globe. This is our time to shine as a human race, to rise above this tragedy and come out on the other side a stronger more resilient people. I just wanted to thank you for trying to maintain some sense of normalcy with such grace and decorum and to also thank the countless others in the online community for their contributions both large and small, for banding together as a society and a community, and most of all for showing everyday the beauty in humanity thru your actions and acts of love and kindness. May we all continue to support one another, until we are able to rebuild our country and our lives. – Peace to all

Thank you for your posts. These are unprecedented times. You, like many bloggers, stores, websites, Instagram posts are offering hope and optimism in a very dark time. It is up to each of us individually how to interpret and respond. I personally enjoy your exquisite taste and thoughts now the same as I did six months ago, whether I chose to purchase something or simply enjoy the pictures. Admiring the latest fashions trends has no price tag. It’s like window shopping – Stay well !

Keep doing you! I don’t read your blog to get updated on the latest COVID news- there are plenty of forums to stay current and find ways to help and contribute to those in need. I read A Note On Style for a quick dip into beauty, distraction, inspiration, and tips for living in a world I hope we can all return to very soon! You’ve been striking a balanced and modest tone these last few weeks. Don’t doubt yourself and trust your instincts!
liz
Karima- please continue your beautiful and inspirational blog posts. I look forward to all the lovely and uplifting images that you post!

I live in Australia, a long way from you, but our experiences of this are the same. Isolation, despair at times, confusion. I have only recently subscribed to your blog, many of the items you discuss are not available here, but it doesn’t matter 😊
I look to you for inspiration, escapism but also connectedness. We are all in this together, near and far, we are all human. We have to live in a world with hope, as someone else said, you keep being you, never think that that is not enough.
Take care of yourselves and be kind, that’s what we all need.
Jennifer
I really enjoy your blog. Thank you!
Lisa
Karima…Following your blog and instagram feeds have always been a part of my day – usually over morning coffee. I appreciate this escape, still. Stopping to admire anything of beauty these days doesn’t mean we do not recognize the gravity of our situation. Stay safe, stay home.
Erin
Karima-I love your posts and also really appreciate the diversion they offer during this trying time! Also, I recently turned 50 and find your blog really inspires me as I navigate this new phase of life-thank you!
BTW-what black crop jeans are those in your pic?:)
Karima

Please, please, please do not change a thing! I truly look forward each and every day to your blog. I follow several bloggers and you’re my absolute favorite. Your sense of style is an inspiration and I would miss it terribly if you changed a thing. You will never please all the people all the time so stay true to yourself.

Continue with what you are doing & have been doing here, for this community.
For many of us YOU have become part of our normalcy & daily life.
Know the regularity & content of your posts comforts many in a myriad of ways, known and unknown, especially now.
The beauty we seek is not found just in the photos we are viewing, but perhaps more so in the person who is taking their time to share their unique gifts with others.
Kelly
Karima, please do not change anything about your blog content. Yours is a bright spot in my day, and I always do a little happy skip when I see a new post from you or one you’ve posted on LDV! Be you-it’s why your followers love coming back!
Dina
Dear Karima,
“Never complain, never explain”. People who are your subscribers get you.
Cheers and looking forward to your next post!
Maria
From a nurse at a major city hospital that has to go to work every day and care for people with little to no PPE, please don’t stop posting. And no need to explain.
As a follower of your blog for several years, coming here reminds me of the beauty and normalcy of days before this. It’s a lifeline from what’s happening outside and it lifts my spirits if just for a while. Thank you.
Karima
Maria…I’m sure I can speak for all of us here in expressing our heartfelt gratitude for the work you do, especially during these extremely challenging times. Thank you so much for sharing. Wishing you good health!
Suzanne
Your posts are lovely, informative and inspirational. Please continue.
Monica
Dear Karima,
I follow your blog and Instagram and have for years! I love your posts on fashion and travel and have found them so useful when traveling myself. I’m disappointed when some are short!
I’d like to see more on interior design, including your own work and your beautiful home. (We’ve only seen glimpses so far:)
I second the wish for warm weather clothing – I live in Miami!
And yes, we will get dressed again!
Anne
Love your blog/IG……please continue……if someone has a problem, they can unsubscribe…….
Ps…..made it for 15 days to India with carry on only…thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Karina!
Your posts are wonderful. I also find it wonderful (and chic!) to be aware of what’s going on around us. So if you’re finding tools that help you cope with anxiety or help others in your community, I think it’s also great to share those here. Thanks!
Meg Chmiel
I love your blog! Please continue to inspire us with your wonderful posts!P

I did not see the negative comment (so sorry you had to), but I can assume it was by someone who doesn’t think too deeply. Your posts are a thoughtful, intelligent respite from the fear and sadness surrounding us right now and I appreciate them so much.
Karima
Thank you Lisa. The comment was from a couple of days ago.
Karima
To all of you…thank you so much for the thoughtful, positive comments and for taking the time to share your opinion. It means the world to me and reaffirms more than ever that we are all connected and in this together! Please stay healthy.
