EVENING CAPSULE COLLECTION

EVENING CAPSULE COLLECTION

Over the years, I’ve slowly accumulated pieces that would amount to an evening capsule collection. Velvet blazer and pant, satin slip dress, billowy blouses, skirts in a variety of fabrics – tulle, metallic, silk, and wide leg trousers. I started thinking about the items I feel like wearing this season for dinners out and casual get togethers and saw a void. My black top selection needed a refresh.

Pieces that fit close to the body balance the volume of a high waist pant or pleated skirt. But I didn’t want to repeat the basic knits I usually reach for. An interesting neckline seemed the most modern to me now and finding a few with sleeves ensured I’d stay warm. A clean, simple option from Alexander McQueen was the first to arrive and is a newly designated hero piece. The fit is fantastic and the style pairs well with everything, including jeans. The next was a long sleeve wrap effect bodysuit from Khaite. Again, the close dense knit contributes to the flattering fit. The fabrication is described as cotton jersey, but it is much heavier than that implies.

I also decided a patterned knit would round out my wardrobe and add pop to most of the black bottoms I already own. I had my eye on a tiger patterned cashmere cardigan from Khaite and finally committed. I already own the lightweight cashmere version in beige and wear it often, so I knew this piece would slip into rotation with ease.

These three pieces will go the distance all season long. They’re great on their own or layered, and can be dressed up or down with the right styling. The black tops are lightweight enough to wear year round and will look chic in the spring and summer paired with white.

Other items I’d like to add to my capsule collection include oversized earrings and a pair of statement shoes. I love Saint Laurent’s boucle cap toe pump. But the Gucci mesh GG rhinestone sling backs might be a better heel height. I don’t know if I can resist them. They’re like little works of art.

This post is in partnership with Mytheresa, my go-to site for highly edited luxe pieces that reflect my personal style. Their selection is constantly refreshed and their customer service top notch. Mytheresa is often the first place I shop to browse new arrivals or search for exclusive collaborations.

Thank you Mytheresa for supporting A Note on Style.
