MODERN CLASSICS

MODERN CLASSICS

Wearing head to toe traditional classics can look a little unimaginative, even stale. That’s why I like to inject a few modern pieces to the mix. Slight tweaks to the familiar keep me in my comfort zone of dressing but still show there’s a pulse on style.

I love all of the pieces in this post and could wear everyone single one with other items in my closet. They’re wardrobe refreshers in the subtlest way.

Stepping away from the statement monogram hardware on most Saint Laurent bags, the Boucle Bucket leans towards a style that’s more refined. The slim tab buckle closure is subtle and falls in line with fashion’s current move towards understated luxury. It’s also available in black. (more stores here, here, and here)

I’ve previously talked about the Priscilla Gabcini Sandal from Ferragamo, but it deserves another mention. From a practicality standpoint, it’s perfect. Just the right size block heel height and a strap to sturdy the foot. The Gancio hardware is bold, but it doesn’t bother me and actually adds to chic factor. It’s great looking in brown and ivory too.

The sculptural, asymmetrical buckle on The Row Effi belt is exceptional. It feels like it could be an archival piece from Elsa Perreti. It’s sleek, elegant and would work equally well with jeans, a dress or tailoring.

Gold studs, check. Gold band, check again. Now, I’m on to dimension, texture, and visual interest. The Caviar Collection from Lagos provides all of that and more. I’ve been wearing the 18k Gold Beaded Stud earrings (gifted) lately and get tons of compliments on them. They’re beautiful on and work with my other gold pieces. The Omega Beaded Earring is also gorgeous. Rings are another story. I like them both simple or stacked. The Spinelli Kilcollin Cici set of bands gets it right. With diamonds or without, it’s a great piece to layer in with other jewelry.

Last, an update to the basic black skirt has arrived. Jil Sander adds a subtle tweak to the hemline with an asymmetrical cut providing elegant movement and drape. At a friendlier price point, the high waisted Norma Kamali Grace Skirt is fantastic too.
