INSTEAD OF A SHIRT…

INSTEAD OF A SHIRT…

I like the idea of swapping out a blouse or shirt for a thin knit tucked in pants and skirts. On my shopping list for fall are variations on this silhouette with either a Johnny collar or a Henley. In a fine knit, they elevate the athletically inspired polo and are easy to layer under jackets. Khaite makes a beautiful option with the Jo sweater and a short sleeve, shrunken version of the Jo here. I’m lost on sizing though. The Khaite sweaters are all over the map, usually very oversized but I’ve ordered others that fit small. I’m taking a guess and trying a small. Lisa Yang has a trimmer option at a friendlier price point and the proportions might be a little better/standard. And, if you’re willing to wait, there’s a nice looking version from Banana Republic. As far as an upscale Henley, Goop has a fabulous fine-gauge knit one here.

I ordered a Jo sweater when they were first introduced and for me, there were so many things wrong. The V is too deep and the sleeves are too long (look at where they are on the models). I’m 5’9, purchased a Small and it was hanging on me, plus I felt “exposed”. I also was not pleased at the quality of the cashmere given the price. On the other hand, I have two of Khaite’s heavier sweaters. I found both of those on sale, are a perfect fit and the quality of the cashmere is incredible. I treat both of those like gold. I would go for either the Nili Lotan Milos or the Lisa Yang Simonette.

I agree with the sizing issue on the Jo sweater. I just received mine yesterday and ordered an XS…not my usual size at all. I could have probably taken an XXS! The original Jo sat too low for me as well, but the XS in this season’s version (perhaps corrected) hits at a flattering, not too revealing spot. Living in California, I appreciate the thin weight. I’m tempted to give the “shrunken Jo” a try…will report back. I also have a couple heavier weight sweaters from Khaite and although luxurious and beautiful, they too are extremely oversized and I’m constantly rolling up the sleeves.

On the other hand, I’m very impressed with the quality, sizing and price point of Lisa Yang’s knits.

    Quince has an affordable version.

Amen to Kim’s comments about Khaite sweaters! I’ve tried and tried as they appear constantly on social media and in blogs but between the super large (or inconsistent) sizing, low v-necks, problematic sleeves and skimpy weight, I’ve given up. What’s the point if you need to put a tank or camisole underneath just to make it work? I love the brand’s vibe and styling, but I’ve turned to alternatives for knits.

With Khaite, it’s a hit or miss. When I see an interesting style, I’ll give it a try…like the Jo sweater which I’d read had been updated. But if an XS fits my 5’9″ frame, the sizing is still off. Khaite is not a brand I look to for basics. I expect the silhouette to be off in a way that makes it unique and interesting. In defense of the design of the Jo, the deep plunging V is the point. The “featherweight” is intensional. It’s not trying to be a classic polo sweater. But still, with the generous sizing, it’s not for everyone.

Might you have any suggestions for sweaters that look like the one you have in the photo at the beginning of this article? Thank you

I think the two linked below from GOOP come pretty close.
