When I’m in warm weather vacation mode lounging

When I’m in warm weather vacation mode lounging by a pool or on the beach, my first thought on what to wear turns to the cover-up. A swimsuit takes second place, maybe even third behind a hat. This @simkhai crochet lace piece is a perfect example of what I like. Coverage with shape, texture, and comfort. I’ll wear it with barely there sandals, bold sunglasses and a contrasting bag – everything in black or white.

Traveling with a limited color palette simplifies carry on packing. I stuck to my rule of an edited palette for a recent trip to New York. Black, white, and beige pieces were completely interchangeable and created pulled together, classic looks. For a one week run around the city, I brought a favorite tan blazer, black and blue high waisted jeans, a white tee, black thin knit top, two blouses, a black cropped jacket, a black short coat, tan pants and three pair of shoes – sneakers, sandals, and boots…in a carry on of course. The sneakers allowed me to clock in over 25,000 steps one day without missing a beat! One bag, one belt, and a heavy cashmere scarf completed the load.

Thank you for your kind messages on my previous post. I read each of them and truly appreciate you taking the time to comment. May has been a whirlwind so far. Today is the two year anniversary of my mother’s death, my dad just passed away, and last week I quietly celebrated my 60th birthday. May will forever be a time of reflection and appreciation. I slipped away for a couple of days with my husband to pause and give my thoughts a chance to unwind. We went to San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito. It was absolutely lovely. A not so long drive up the coast but an escape that took me far away. I’m grateful for family, friends, and the community formed from A Note on Style. Thank you for your support and following along over the years.❤️

My sweet dad passed away. I'm blessed with a childhood filled with wonderful memories. Everyone loved my dad. He was the life of the party - conversational, curious about others and a great storyteller. He loved to socialize, travel and worked until the age of 90, only stopping because of Covid. As a dad and grandfather, he was one of a kind, always loving, supportive and there for us. His kind heart and generosity were a gift to all that knew him. I’ll miss his adorable smile and sweet voice. Thank you for everything dad. I love you. ❤️

I’m drawn to pretty little objects and seem to always find a place for them. The Baccarat crystal butterfly would be pretty perched on a book, desktop, shelf, nightstand…anywhere.

I first spotted the Altuzarra Secret Garden pattern as dinnerware and immediately fell for it. A small tray or a set of desert plates would be lovely gifts.

The Kendall Conrad Abancio II cuff is so comfortable to wear I hardly take it off. I love the bold but minimalist statement it adds to an outfit.

April – the month of transitioning from winter f

April – the month of transitioning from winter fashion to spring is here. I love the cold and am not quite ready to shed the layers but I do have my eye on a few pieces that will nudge me in the right direction.
.
A straight basic jean will continue to anchor looks and will look current paired with Saint Laurent’s new blade flat and a burgundy bag. These items will serve me well through fall.
.
I love a little black jacket to toss on over a thin knit, tee or tank. The relaxed silhouette from Toteme is perfect. The somewhat unstructured shape will look great in the summer over an all white ensemble.
.
A go-to uniform forever has been jeans and a white poplin shirt. I’d up the style factor with a tie neck, full sleeve cut for impact. Tod’s contrasting leather slide provides another level of interest.

After much back and forth with my decision on a ne

After much back and forth with my decision on a new trench, I’m putting the issue on pause. My intention was to bring one to France, but I needed warmth - more than a trench could provide. Plus after trying on the long classic Burberry options, I never felt truly comfortable. I’m waiting for the one…I’ll know it when I see it and try it on. Meanwhile, my 20 year old short Burberry trench worked out fine on the occasional warmer (over 50 degree) days.
