Updating A Few Essentials

Updating A Few Essentials

You know when you go to wear a favorite piece in your closet and put it on and it just doesn’t work anymore…a skirt that’s too short, a sweater or tee that’s lost its shape, or shoe that’s lost its edge? That’s been happening to me more and more lately. Instead of hanging it back up, I’m immediately placing it in a charity basket and making a note to replace it. If the item has stood the test of time as an essential that I’d like to wear again, it’s worth updating.

I’ve rounded up some of the pieces I’m currently focusing on. I’m very into skirts right now, and love the length and ease of this black one from Vince. I’m considering it in white too. Love it with a sneaker and tee as much as with a pump and sweater.

Speaking of tees, I’d like an updated one that’s long enough to stay tucked into higher waist pants and skirts. Adam Lippes’ pima t-shirt has a slim silhouette and does the trick.

I’ve also been on the hunt for a black sweater that has shape, but isn’t fitted, specifically to wear out over a skirt. I like the slightly flared cuffs and hem on Paul & Joe’s ribbed cotton knit.

I had to throw in this ankle strap pump because it’s so fresh and unique, plus the heel height is great.

Lastly, jewelry can easily be overlooked and it would be nice to have on hand something substantial to wear over knits. I’m considering Ashley Pittman’s hammered bronze and horn necklace that stands out beautifully on black but would finish off an all white look nicely too.
