Building a Packing List Around Updated Separates

Building a Packing List Around Updated Separates

As longtime readers know, I’m all about thoughtful packing with the intention of fitting everything in a carry-on. With a couple of trips lined up, I’m sorting out in my mind the things I’ll wear so it will be a breeze when it’s time to put it all together. I’m building on the white and black essentials (cropped and slim pants) that always have a place in my travel wardrobe. Adding color feels right to me this season, so I’m going to toss in something, maybe this yellow Tibi top, to elevate a number of outfits. Other separates that will make the cut fall into the category of basics with a twist…think an off-the-shoulder black top, a ruffled blouse, a white shirt with tie-details or an open split-back blouse. A breezy floral dress that’s casual enough for shopping or touring during the day then transitions to dinner is a winner too. A skirt or two that have unique silhouettes, like a tie front or softly pleated wrap will make the cut. As far as shoes go to pull it all together, a classic black sandal is a must but to give any of these looks a current edge a colorful mule or bright white shoe is the way to go. The best part about these great pieces is their versatility and how easily they transition from day to-night, at home or away, to destinations as diverse as Miami our Charleston.
