FIRST FALL BUYS

FIRST FALL BUYS

My fall 2022 moodboard has been in the works for months. After reviewing saved images of looks I love, I’ll zero in on specific pieces to freshen my wardrobe. Loafers and a pair of dark wash jeans are at the top of the list. A Mary Jane pump is there too. I already have a solid collection of classics in my closet, so I wanted to add a new item of clothing that would inject a sense of newness. This came in the form of a knit bustier. I’ll wear it under a jacket or over a shirt. It feels super modern yet relatable.

Valentino Garavani VLogo loafers

Read through for my picks…all from Mytheresa.

Loafers are the “it” shoe of the season. I’ve waffled between two opposite styles – a chunky lug sole and a sleek flat. The Valentino VLogo gets my vote for the lug sole option, followed closely by a horsebit style from Gucci. The embroidered bee detail on the heel is distinctive and fun.

On the sleeker side, The Row’s boyfriend style loafer is outstanding. A low profile with a tasseled, moccasin stitched toebox plus no hardware gives them a distinctive edge. They have a cool vibe without trying too hard. Those who appreciate The Row’s attention to detail and understated style will covet these loafers. (They run a half size large.)

Next on the list is a  dark pair of jeans absent of any distressing. Khaite makes great denim and the Danielle style is a winner. It has the look of raw denim but with the comfort of stretch. I love the polished vibe too. I sized up and they still provide a fitted look.

Khaite jeans

Khaite always has a least a few items I want to add to my closet every season. In addition to the jeans mentioned, I’m stepping out of my no strapless rule and indulging in a knit bustier. I love the curved shape of the bustier under a jacket, which is how I plan on wearing it. The weight of the knit is substantial, so if I happen to remove the jacket, I don’t feel completely exposed and bare. I’lll also wear it over an untucked poplin shirt for a current styling bit.

Khaite bustier, Acne Studios blazer

Another shoe on my fall wishlist is a Mary Jane pump. High heels are not my go-to but with a chunky heel and strap to keep my foot secure, these Gucci pumps are actually comfortable for me. The style is charming with a square toe in patent leather. Great to add a lift to jeans and equally pretty with dresses.

As I created this post, I realized that so many of the pieces in my closet, the true keepers, are purchases from the last several years from Mytheresa. It illustrates how building a wardrobe with modern classics is easy when shopping consistently from a store that shares my style philosophy. I can count on Mytheresa to continually offer a selection of highly edited luxury items which is exactly how I want to curate my closet.

Thank you Mytheresa for supporting A Note on Style with this post.

Great round-up, Karima, especially on the loafers. Thank you! Is that your Co blouse from last Fall? Could you give a little compare and contrast of The Row blazer vs. the Acne studios blazer? Thanks again.

      August 28, 2022

The blouse is from The Row from a few seasons back (purchased on Mytheresa). Regarding the blazers, they are completely different. The Row is a shrunken fit worn very close to the body with bracelet sleeve length. The Acne Studios blazer is double breasted, boxy and oversized. I could easily layer a sweater underneath.

    • Karima

      August 28, 2022

Thank you. It’s actually just an old black cardigan I tie at the waist. I do this often with sleeveless tops when I prefer extra coverage.

Just unsure of size of Danielle Khaite jeans as the website says true to size? I am unable to return as live in South Africa so need to make the right choice? Would appreciate your help?

    • Karima

      August 30, 2022

I’m usually a 27 or 28 in Khaite denim. The 28 felt better on my waistline at my current weight. For comparison with other brands, I usually wear a 27 in MOTHER denim (with stretch) and a 28 in SLVRLKE (with no stretch). I hope that helps.

The Acne double breasted blazer has a great fit. It’s become a staple in the collection and in my wardrobe. I have it in a another color & always feel pulled together wearing it. The oversized fit doesn’t not overwhelm my small frame.
I would get it in black but recently bought the black blazer from Serino in NYC. Check that collection.

Agree. I’ve had the Acne blazer for several years and it always pulls together an outfit.

Gray is taking a back seat this season in my usual Gray is taking a back seat this season in my usual fall round up. Instead, warm, caramel tones have all of my attention. Mixing various hues results in an interesting look that feels more naturally acquired versus overly styled.

The Row silk scarf looks like something you could easily miss, but it’s the perfect finishing touch to so many looks. It truly goes with everything. Toteme’s travel loafers (in any color) is a must for any travel wardrobe. And I don’t know how this zipped cardigan got past me until now. It’s fantastic and in my cart.

My closet is slowly becoming more Khaite-centric w My closet is slowly becoming more Khaite-centric with every new collection. Each season, I’m finding at least a few pieces from Khaite on the very top of must have list. I like how the styles stand out on their own making a modern statement in a subtle way. Adding a Khaite belt, sweater, or pair of jeans nudges a more current feel on my wardrobe without looking fashion obsessed.

Now, it’s time for a bag. The Lilith specifically caught my eye. Understated chic in a quietly sophisticated way. The slim size would make this ideal for travel when something more than an everyday bag is required. The black and cream leather are beautiful, but the latticework of Swarovski crystals is extra special.

I’m wearing the dress with gold and black suede T-strap @chanelofficial sandals. I added a belt for definition at the waist but think a grosgrain or satin ribbon would do the trick. Although I love the idea of pearls on the belt, I’d prefer a non logo with this dress. Link to dress in today’s story.

As I said in an earlier post - jewelry, fashion and interior design are opportunities to tell a story, which is why I adore this necklace. The 18k gold Florentine etched circle is elegant in its simplicity and can be personalized with a monogram, more charms, or worn as is. The beauty is in creating a modern heirloom reflecting your story. #bespoke #jewelry

The fabric in the first black dress from a few day The fabric in the first black dress from a few days ago had a tonal metallic thread that provided sparkle in a subtle way. Beading takes it to another level and perhaps too far for my taste. Both of today's black dresses are pretty - one offers coverage and the other is about shape. But, neither will make the final cut. I ventured out and bought them on @therealreal (I have a couple more on their way).
