PERSONALIZING A SELF-TAN

PERSONALIZING A SELF-TAN

I have used self-tanning products for years. As someone who is religiously slathered in sunscreen* whenever outdoors, my skin tone is very pale. But a warm glow reminds me of the summers of my youth and always lifts my mood. All I need is a hint of color. My current favorite brand to achieve a natural looking glow is Tan-Luxe.  The brand specializes in a line up of products allowing for personalization. A beauty advisor at Nordstrom explained them to me and their unique applications to customize the depth of tan I desired.

I wanted both a traditional self-tanner (with results in a few hours) and a gradual self tanner to help maintain the original color (and good for every day use).  This is where Tan-Luxe gets special. The self-tanner, The Water, is a hydrating water mist both odorless and easy to apply. I like to soften the edges of the application around knees, elbows and feet with my own lotion mixed in. The Super Glow Body is their gradual tanner in a hyaluronic serum formula. It’s an interesting texture and feels like no other tanning product I’ve used in the past. It dries instantly with no stickiness or odor.

The self-tan drops for face or body further the tanning process if desired. I customize the number of drops I’ll add to my own lotion depending on the depth of color I’m after. It’s always lighter on my face and much darker for my legs. I don’t want to look like I’ve been tanning in the sun. My goal is to knock out the winter pale and give the hint of a warm, sun-kissed glow.

The full product line up including a Sleep Oil, Bronzing Drops with SPF and Wonder Oil is available at Nordstrom. And for the occasional mistake, there’s a Self-Tan Eraser.

*For sunscreen, I’m a huge fan of Supergoop!. I like the Unseen Sunscreen for my face and Play with SPF50 for my body.

We kicked off our June trip to France with a long We kicked off our June trip to France with a long weekend in Paris. The itinerary was relaxed so I worked my packing around a casual theme.

Comfortable shoes – sneakers and Birkenstocks – were rotated on big walking days, while a loafer took me through evenings. Sandals would have worked as well.

A polished cross body and a lightweight Prada nylon bag were alternated during the day. I swapped those out for a small white Bottega for dinners.

I packed two dresses - a lightweight poplin print dress for warm days and a black ribbed tank dress to style up or down.

Crisp cotton shirts, a white linen skirt, and a tank top for layering gave me plenty of styling options. For cooler temps, a black linen blazer and a cropped cardigan were useful and added just the right amount of polish.

Scroll through for details and the looks I wore with these pieces.
