When it’s hot outside, beauty prep has its challenges. The last thing I want to do is add more heat with a blowdryer to style my hair or layer on makeup that melts. I’ve a-listed a handful of products that help combat those situations while keeping my routine simple, fast and heat proof.
above: Westman Atelier highlighter, contour stick, powder, lip palette, (this trio on sale); Oribe dry shampoo, texturizing spray and styling cream, (Magic Set on sale here)
For makeup, I stick to the essentials that are easy to apply and pretty much goof proof. A bronzer stick replaces foundation. An application across cheeks, nose and forehead mimics sun-kissed skin and leaves a natural finish. I’ll swap out translucent powder for a brown hued shade and lightly dust across cheeks for warm color. The powder also tames any areas with too much shine. I’ll keep my lip color on the natural side and use a product that won’t bleed. Westman Atelier Lip Palette in nudes is my summer go-to for this. After applying color to my lips, any excess left on my fingers is dabbed on cheeks and eyelids. I’ll finish with a hint of highlighter to prevent a flat finish and may even dab a little on the center of my lips for dimension. The products all blend in nicely, so even in the summer heat, my makeup looks fresh.
Using similar principles for styling my hair means I don’t stress about control or perfection. I prefer my hair worn off my face for comfort similar to a ponytail. In between hair washing days, I’ll work with products that don’t require heat. I’ll freshen my style with a dry shampoo for root lift and a texturizing spray to add grit for body and hold. Oribe’s Gold Lust Dry Shampoo and Dry Texturizing Spray are two of my current favorites. On freshly washed hair, Oribe’s Imperial Blowout is a must. My fine hair can easily frizz and fall limp, but this blowout creme manages to prevent that. It’s also easy to reactivate with a little water between shampoos.
Rather than struggle with hair and makeup when it’s hot outside, I’ve found easy to use products that prevent me from looking wilted. Karima, great product suggestions for a summery look, thank you. In the Westman pressed powder, did you choose the Cafe or Dune color? Also, peach highlighter, Biscuit contour stick? Love your small clutch!
Karima
Thank you. For the above application I use the Dune powder, the Peau de Peche highlighter and Truffle contour stick (which is pretty dark).

Always love your suggestions! My hairdresser told me to never use the dry shampoo in the bathroom or an enclosed area, as there are lots of particles in the stuff that you don’t want to breathe in. Sort of a drag to go outside to use..but thought you would want to know.
Karima
Thanks for the tip. I didn’t know!
Lynn
You are adorable, Karima! Thanks for these suggestions. xx

Karmia – I would love an update on hair regrowth. I know you had several post concerning this. Thanks!
