I started this post thinking about some of the essentials I like to pack and narrowed it down to these four items – a soft, flat shoe, day-to-night earrings, wrinkle free go-with-everything black pants, and a small bag for dinners.
A soft, flat is a style I toss in my suitcase for a specific reason. I like to have something to slip on when wandering the hotel, going to breakfast or quick little jaunts. They never make it out for long outings but are a nice to have for a change of pace. I look for styles that take up the least amount of space in my suitcase. The Alaia mesh flat gets bonus points for style and versatility.
I travel with a minimum amount of jewelry and pack pieces that look good day or night. A reversible hoop earring like these from Sophie Buhai address this beautifully with the option of wearing a smooth or ridged side out.
A black pant always has a place in my suitcase. There are a number of great options to choose from depending on preferred fabric and fit. I usually stick with long for cold weather and cropped for warm. If I don’t take a pair of black pants, a very dark black jean works. (See this post for more.)
A crossbody bag is essential. My phone is usually in my hand so I don’t want to be encumbered with carrying a bag on top of that. The wrinkled metallic Jil Sander bag is striking and with the removable shoulder strap quickly converts to a clutch for dinners. Credit card slots and a zip pocket inside are a bonus making it easy to streamline contents.
